Multiple Myeloma
Below is an informational post by a group member on Multiple Myeloma:
Found an interesting article that associates increased levels of serum vitamin b6 with multiple myeloma. This should be especially of interest to those of you diagnosed with MGUS/SMM/multiple myeloma!
I’ve had neuropathy for a few years and finally asked my Dr to test for everything she could think of, and was subsequently diagnosed with MGUS. MGUS is a pre cancerous condition with the potential to turn into multiple myeloma, a serious blood cancer.
My hematologist said however that she did not think the neuropathy was related. So I did a deep dive in the internet and stumbled upon this b6t site.
I had been taking 50-80 mg b6 in supplements and everything fell into place. Immediately stopped the supplements and had my b6 tested about 2 weeks later. This was late July 2024. The b6 level was 25.4, which was in normal range. My M spike (the level of precancerous cells related to multiple myeloma) was .49. This was tested in May 2024. Normal is 0.
My 6 mos follow up for the M spike was last week. She tested my b6 levels as well. The M spike is down to .34 from .49! This is a huge decrease! And my b6 is now 8! I have been loosely following the protocol… drinking the salt water and coconut water but still having difficulty with the diet. I keep trying! Not perfect but the b6 level of 8 is now low normal.
So is it possible the elevated serum b6 caused the M spike? I have no way of knowing. But I’m thrilled with the result!
Lots of medical jargon but clearly elevated serum b6 is associated with an increase in multiple myeloma!
